The metallic coating on this product is in the threads of the pedals and in the mounting hole that goes on the sprocket axle. This makes the threads a bit too thick to easily screw pedals into it, and as they screw in the metallic coat flakes off of the threads, gumming them up and warping them, making them extremely difficult to screw on. I ended up needing to screw the pedal on a little at a time to break apart the coating, then unscrew the pedal and scrub it out with a brass brush. A similar issue is with the mounting hole, where is shrinks the size of the hole *just enough* to make putting it on a pain without filing it off. The coating is cool looking, and more coppery than brass. It is, unfortunately very easily chipped or scratched off, and just riding the bike around gave it a few chips where rocks were kicked up into them.
