As others have stated you'll need to put it in a vice and bend it to get it to line up right. Or you can do what I did and strip all the fresh parts and put it on your old tensioner arm. Boom. Back to ripping.

This thing is over an inch offset. Had to make 2 45 degree bends on the arm to get it to line up. You have been warned! I should have read the reviews before I bought this

BUT its all we got really, so bite the bullet and buy it. flip the wheel to the other side, and when you go to tighten it down on the swing arm, hold the arm at the 3 oclock position as you tighten the nut. you will feel it gaining tension. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN or any number of awful things can happen. it strips out VERY easily, so be careful.

it had to be flipped and bent to work. you have to tighten the hell out of it to get it to right. and if you tighten it too much the spring falls off. cheap metal.
but it works.

it bent around like a  u and rubbed on my spokes and I couldn't pedal then after i bent it back with a crescent wrench as I was tightening it the spring bent and shot into my fingertip and cut it. I bent the spring back with needle nose pliars and tightened it up again and now it works ok but doesn't look right

I purchased two of these and both broke within the first couple of uses. Switched to the less expensive one called the "strange puch pedal chain tensioner". Solid!!!

I had to flip the chain wheel also, gets tighter when you torque it down so don't worry if it seems loose when you first go to put it on.

Installed this on a 78' Maxi.  The little black wheel on it was installed on the opposite side as the owner's manual indicated.  Easy enough to flip it around.  Works exactly as you'd expect it to.  Helps to tension the bicycle chain and keep it from scraping your swing arm.
