soooo the non clutch'd version comes with the Moby variation of the "Doppler nut" which doesnt fit the threading on a Peugeot crank? the clutch'd version comes with the proper Peugeot "Doppler nut". Now here comes the fun part, the Peugeot Doppler nut doenst fit the center of the the non-clutch'd er3...so you need to get a Peugeot nut and machine it down, kinda a pain, maybe it was a fluke? But the pictures also show different nuts so?

But other then that, its a Doppler ER3, it rips, it rocks, changing the weights is a breeze, but that damn nut....

4 of 5 great once prep'd December 30, 2013

due to the inherent nature of the er3, the parts on it wear out over time. there are 8 plastics pieces that absorb the shock of the metal variator arms and variable face doing their thannngs...in order to prolong the life of your er3 and maintain smooth ripability do the following:

1. completely disassemble.

2. get a gram scale and weigh the two variator arms. mine were 1.1 grams apart in weight. bad. make them weigh EXCATLY the same and bask in the glory of less vibration and imbalance. your crank bearings will thank you. trust me

3. get some grease and grease all the moving parts. don't go too crazy. i like silicone grease but at the same time hate it. i don't really think it matters because it all gets launched off the second you start the bike but just do it anyway. also re grease often!

4. get some blue and red loctite. use RED loctite on the two 32mm nuts, on the pins that hold the variator arms in place, and on the black guide pins. use blue loctite on the weights.

this is my one and only "frenchy" variator, so i don't really know how it performs compared to mmm say the variotop, but i do know it's way more rad than any roller vespa variator i've ever messed with! easy tuning is your best friend! plus everything comes apart, and all parts are replaceable! so good!
some kids don't like the blue, and i say to them "you dummy! get some spray paint!"
