1 of 5 sure it throws a half inch spark... July 2, 2011

but it won't actually let my bike rev past 1/4 throttle... it just back fires in all throttle positions except 1/4 throttle and idle.  jetting is right, timing is @ 1.6mm BTDC (checked with a timing light), wired properly.  I tried 2 different CDI boxes, HT coils, plug boots, adjusted timing without the woodruff key (1.2mm, 1.3mm, 1.4mm, 1.5mm, 1.6mm all the way to 2mm)... go HPI --- it's much more expensive but well... you get what you pay for.

5 of 5 you can even use your old external coil May 22, 2011

you can even use your old external coil because the stock points system is of the energy transfer type whereby the coil has super low ohms and is only charged for a short time. This is really pretty much the same as a cdi coil so use it. Throws good half inch spark.

5 of 5 Cheap CDI Upgrade November 16, 2010

This CDI is real nice. Hobbit points are real solid. It's no secret- but when they crap out it sucks. Points die, or wear out and secretly advance your timing or whatever. I like CDI.

First off this thing needs a few more puzzle pieces.

The stator is a bolt on ordeal. The taper flange needed to hold the points flywheel on is the same as the one needed for this so that's easy. The woody key is also recycled. Next you'll need a control box.

http://www.dratv.com/cdiunit88d.html ---- This one should do it. Unlimited revving box for hondas and honda clone CDIs.

You'll need to hook it all up with this http://www.dratv.com/cdicopa409.html

and you'll need a universal high tension coil and boot plug from treats or wherever.

Setting it up is pretty simple.

For that see my UB blog on it.
