4 of 5 Good match for Hobbits w/a little know how... October 26, 2011

It's not the rear contra spring. While I'm sure it's wear will play a factor, it is not the main culprit. It's the honda starting clutch. Remove that and you can get right back into the pipe as you throttle on. With a tuned variator and light weights on my setup I reach a fuller range of variation than with my Derbi 6-roller ramp plate. While variation won't be as smooth as the Derbi plate due to the progressive ramps of the Tjt, it hits harder and gets me a little more mph on the top end...which I like...because I'm not a pussy...#truestory

3 of 5 Not a good match for Hobbits July 5, 2011

So the primary issue with the TJT plate is the ramp design. As you can see when you look at it, it has a flat beginning and then very aggressively angles to the edge of the plate. What happens during riding is you have really incredible low end RPMs, then the weights hit the ramps and you variate somewhat suddenly. This isn't a huge deal, but your RPMs drop a bit and you can fall out of the pipe a little. The primary issue is that if you are cruising in your midrange and throttle on, or throttle off, slow down, and throttle back on, is you are stuck variated a little farther than you would like to be and you have to fight to get back on the pipe. This happens even with a properly tuned variator with light weights. The rear contra spring simply isn't matched well to the TJT plate design.

Hilariously, though, this is your only option unless you dig up a Derbi 6-roller plate, which is much more of a smooth curve and a perfecto match for the stock contra. Good luck with this one!
